Patrick Agyemang's QPR Experience

-
Ed Gallois/Ealing Gazette - Ghana's loss, QPR's gain
Ghanaian striker Patrick Agyemang took his tally to five goals in four games when Rangers played Bristol City at the weekend, in a performance that was widely thought to be his best for the club since his move from Preston in January for an undisclosed fee.
Rangers fans will be relieved that Agyemang did not receive the call from Ghana for the African Nations Cup, as the Walthamstow-born hitman is firmly establishing himself as the type of forward the Loftus Road crowd have craved for since the days of 'Sir' Les Ferdinand.
Paul Finney, who runs a popular website for QPR fans at www.indyrs.co.uk, believes Agyemang and the Hoops could turn out to be a match made in heaven. Speaking to The Gazette he said: "Certain players suit certain clubs and Patrick seems to suit QPR. He's athletic, strong, chases down every lost cause and his energy levels are nothing short of phenomenal. He was simply awesome on Saturday and it's good to see him starting to score more than just tap-ins. If he plays like that every week he'll be playing for Brazil let alone Ghana!"
Agyemang has been out of the Ghana squad since 2006, but must have a decent chance of being recalled given his recent rich vein of form. The Gazette linked up with Patrick earlier this week to talk about his international ambitions and his time at QPR so far:
"Like a lot of football fans, I've been watching Ghana on TV and been really impressed with them. I'm still in contact with a few of the play-ers there, and of course I hope to get back into the squad as soon as possible.
"More important for me at the moment though, is that I'm enjoying my football at QPR and the team are on the up. The main thing is to get ourselves as far away from the relegation zone as possible. I'm not going to say that we can get promotion this season, but if we do our best to win every remaining game, who knows where we'll end up?"
Asked to explain the club's up-and-down form under manager De Canio - Rangers have won five and lost three of their last eight games - Agyemang was keen to bury the ghost of QPR's recent horror-show at Cardiff.
"I think the inconsistency of late has probably been because of all the new players coming in, but Cardiff was a one-off I think. We didn't start well and, speaking to some of their players after the match, they had their best game of the season against us. Also, the formation we played that night - one in behind the striker - didn't really work. I was up there on my own, isolated. It meant we couldn't really create any chances. With two up front against Bristol City at the weekend we played really well, so I'm guessing that will be the way forward," he said.
If that sounded like a sly dig at De Canio's tactics, it probably wasn't meant to be as Agyemang clearly rates his Italian boss.
"Everyone's enjoying working with him. Training is positive and intensive and, although it's difficult for him to get his message across sometimes, his English is better than most people make out and he's able to have a laugh and a joke with the players. I think all the rumours about him off to Napoli or wherever are just that - rumours."
As the interview came to a close, there was one final thing that I wanted to bring up which I had read online and heard from Paul Finney - about Patrick's team-mates at Preston calling him 'Dave'.
Why? Agyemang certainly wasn't letting on: "First time I've heard of that to be honest. Where did you get that from? Nah, never heard of it. Who told you that? Dave? Nah, not me, mate."
It seems we will have to wait for that mystery to be solved. Ealing Gazette
