Ex-QPR Players: "Where Are They Now?" - The Answer!

-
Thanks to someone who has done an awful lot of research, the old question of "Where Are They Now" receives a comprehensive answer. Originally posted on the QPRDot.org site by the author under the moniker, "nethqpr88" they have been reposted on QPR Report thanks to the very kind permission of the author, "nethqpr88". Some of these names will probably evoke a "What a player!"; while others "who: Did he play QPR?" In betweeen these two responses, are the many names, who evoke warm memories of past QPR seasons. A great debt is owed to "nethqpr88" for doing this.

" 18 months has passed since part #9, so maybe it was time to post something. Some former R's have actually had successful seasons in the form of promotions with their teams.

We all know about GARY WADDOCK and Aldershot, who had NIKKI BULL in goal (it's been reported today that he will be released as they've not been able to agree a new deal) and SCOTT DONNELLY, Unfortunately, he was injured most of the season and only played a handful of games towards the end and managed to score a few goals as well.

Of course, former loanee DEAN MARNEY enjoyed Wembley euphoria with Hull City.

Former youth player BERTIE BRAYLEY played in all but one league game scoring 15 goals for Ryman League Premier champions Chelmsford City.

"Yesterdays Monaco GP winner" LEWIS HAMILTON played in about half of the games (mostly out due to injury) as Lewes clinched the Blue Square Conference South title. HAMID BARR joined him in January from Tonbridge Angels but only managed 8 apps, scoring once.

The Conference North title went to Kettering Town who had LEE HARPER in goal. He missec only three games out of 42.

Farnborough are champions of Southern League Division South & West althouhg probably not thanks to LUKE TOWNSEND who only managed 5 apps in Sept/Oct.

And last but not least, Salernitana Calcio from the city of Salerne are Italian Serie C Group B champions and promoted to Serie B, which enabled MAURO MILANESE to pop the bubbly. At age 36 he made 27 apps out of 34. Not bad Mauro!

It's nice to be able to write something positive on former players and I would like to express my congratulations to all of these lads. There seems to be life outside QPR, although I sometimes doubt it.

Cheers

I must be getting old as in part #10 I forgot to mention a few former R's who also had a successful season. So even if it is well known, I think they are worth another mention.

At Hull there was another former loanee in the form of WAYNE BROWN. Following his move from Colchester last summer he was a regular with 41 apps and one goal. DEAN MARNEY made the same number of apps in the regular season, scoring 6 goals.

On the books of Stoke we find loanee MARLON BROOMES but he has not played a single game for them for two seasons due to injury.

Promotion with Nottingham Forest was enjoyed by two former R's. JUNIOR AGOGO scored 13 league goals in 35 apps. He also managed 4 goals in 6 apps for Ghana and played for them in The Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Former reserve player MATT LOCKWOOD assisted with 11 apps as a full back, having moved from Leyton Orient in the summer after nine years, 328 apps and 50 goals.

And of course we have MK Dons, promoted from Div Two, who have KEVIN GALLEN and loanee LLOYD DYER in their ranks. King Kev made 24 league apps scoring 8 goals while Dyer made 45 league apps and adding 11 goals to the cause.

Then we have SCOTT MULHOLLAND, who helped Thamesmead Town to clinch the Kent League Premier Div title. He made 31 league apps out of 32, scoring 4 goals. Next season Thamesmead will play in the Ryman League North Division for the first time in the clubs history.

Finally, manager ANDY SINTON lead Fleet Town to their best ever season (2nd place) in the Southern League South & West Div and they will play next season in the Ryman League South Div for the first time in club history.

Well done to all of these lads!

So who else played last season outside the football league that I haven't mentioned in part #10 or 11?

PAUL BRUCE moved last summer to St.Alban's City in the Ryman League South Div and made 30 league apps scoring 7 goals.

OLIVER BURGESS moved last July from Nuneaton to Hemel Hempstead in the Southern League Prem Div, making 26 apps scoring 7 times.

TREVOR CHALLIS made 18 apps for Weymouth in the Conference.

KARL CONNOLLY made 23 apps scoring once for Prescot Cables in the Unibond League before his January move to Welsh side Nevi Cefn Druids where the made a further 12 apps and scored 3 times.

WES DALY played 34 times for Maidenhead United in the Ryman League South Div following his move from AFC Wimbledon last summer.

RYAN JOHNSON also started his season with Maidenhead but only managed 3 apps before he was injured for most of the season. Having recovered, he moved to Sittingbourne in the same division in March and managed another 3 apps and a goal.

PATRICK GRADLEY also played briefly (4 apps) for Sittingbourne from January to March, before he "quit to travel around the world".

Former youth player SONNY FARR was with Chertsey Town in the Combined Counties League.

LEROY GRIFFITHS played for Havant & Waterlooville up to November (5 apps and one goal) before his switch to Gillingham. Also moving to Gillingham were DENNIS OLI from Grays Athletic (17 apps) and ADAM MILLER from Stevenage Borough (16 apps, 4 goals) in the Conference.

RICHARD PACQUETTE also played for Havant & Waterlooville and of course made the headlines with his FA Cup goal at Anfield. In the league the made 22 apps scoring 8 goals but all was not well and in March he moved to Maidenhead United where he made another 5 apps scoring twice.

MATTHEW HISLOP had a troubled season first at Hayes & Yeading United and then Harrowborough in the Ryman South Div but only made 3 apps for each club before being released.

PAUL JONES made two apps for Bognor Regis Town in the Conference South League before hanging up his gloves.

Former Youth player DEAN LODGE made 38 apps scoring 8 goals for Kingstonian in the Ryman South Div.

JON MUNDAY made 3 apps for Kiddderminster in the Conference but could not establish a regular place and was loaned out to Worcester City in the Confrerence North Div in January. He remained there until the end of the season making 18 apps scoring twice. He has since been released by the Harriers.

Former Youth players DANNY MURPHY and ADAM THEO both palayed for Northwood in the Ryman League North Div. Murphy made 30 apps scoring twice, while Theo managed 27 apps scoring once before switching to Farnborough in March where he made a further 2 apps.

SIMON OSBORN played for Bromley in the Ryman League Premier, making 25 apps. In January he also became the manager.

KEITH ROWLAND is player/coach at Barking in the Essex Senior League. He made 7 apps for them.

STEVE SLADE also made 2 apps scoring twice for Barking back in January.

Everybody's favourite GEORGE SANTOS made 17 apps for Farsley Celtic in the Conference.

DOMINIC SHIMMIN only managed two apps for Crawley in the Conference before being released.

Former youth player NATHAN STAMP played regularly for Uxbridge FC in the Southern League South & West Div.

Another former youth WES THOMAS started the season at Thurrock where he made 8 apps scoring 2 goals before moving to Fisher Athletic in the same Conference South Div. His tally at Fisher was 15 goals in 26 apps.

TONY THORPE only managed 7 apps adding one goal for Tamworth in the Conference North Div before injury curtailed his career in October.

BEN WALSHE briefly made two apps for Wealdstone in the Conf. South Div.

CHRISTER WARREN was a regular for Wimborne Town with 39 apps and 3 goals in the Wessex League.

Former youth RHYS WHYBORNE made 39 apps for Hastings United in the Ryman League Premier.

Loanee CALLUM WILLOCK switched from Port Vale to Stevenage in the Conference in January and scored once in 9 apps.

Finally, former youth player KARL YELLAND started off with Poole Town in the Wessex League making 21 apps before moving to Conf. South with Wealdstone in March. He added a further 6 apps to his season tally.

So there's the season summary. Lots of important and maybe not so important facts you may or may not have known and may or may not find interesting!

If I can find the energy, perhaps I'll add a summary of former R's abroad, unless you prefer for me to be quiet.

NEWS ON FORMER R's - #12 -
(Originally posted on the dot.org, Mon Jun 23, 2008)

A few weeks ago I kinda promised to put something out on former R's playing abroad so here we go:

AZIZ BEN ASKAR has been playing in Qatar for the last two seasons, first at Umm Salal Club on loan in 2006/07 and then with Al-Shamal who were relegated from the top flight at the end of the season. It's a bit difficult to tell how he's been doing as I don't speak or read arabic script, perhaps someone is better familiar with it than I am.

SERGE BRANCO was with Krylja Sovetov Samara in the Russian league for the last two seasons. Made 38 apps scoring 3 goals and was converted to a full back in the process. He left in January and was reportedly having a trial with Greuther Furth in Germany in April but is apparently currently a free agent.

FERNANDO DE ORNELAS found a home in Norway with Odd Grenland at the end of 2004 and played for them for three seasons. Apparently he became something of a hero there and the fans thanked him for his services last fall when the season ended. Not sure if he retired as he does not seem to be playing for another club and apparently he is still around there, as his son became junior member at Odd Grenland in May.

Another cult hero is DANNY DICHIO at Toronto FC in the MLS league. Danny scored the first ever MLS goal for them in April 2007 and his season tally was 7 goals in 22 apps. This season he has scored 5 goals so far in 11 apps.

At Toronto we also find former loanee ROHAN RICKETTS who signed for them in April following his release from Barnsley. He has managed 9 starts and two goals so far. Incidentally, you also find former Newcastle star Laurent Robert at Toronto, he also signed in April.

Another MLS player is of course GINO 'GIIINNOOO' PADULA, who went to Columbus Crew following his release from French side Montpellier in January. Gino didn't enjoy the best of times in France and last season only managed two apps for them. He's made 3 apps for Columbus so far.

His teammate at Montpellier, EGUTU OLISEH had a decent season. He made 29 apps (19 starts) scoring twice for them.

In Belgium you find loanee DOMINIC FOLEY, who's been with KAA Gent for the past three seasons. Last season his tally was 10 goals in 32 apps as Gent finished 6th in the table.

SAMPSA TIMOSKA returned to his native Finland and MyPa, the team he signed from. He has made 8 starts so far in the Finnish Veikkausliiga.

In the Polish league we find two former R's. First we have MARCIN KUS, who plays for Korona Kielce. He made 21 starts out of 30, scoring once. He was also capped twice for Poland during the winter but did not make it to the Euro2008 squad.

The other player in Poland is none other than UGO UKAH who seems to have found regular football with Widzew Lodz. He made 24 starts as Widzew Lodz just escaped relagation from the top flight, finishing 15th in the table.

One player who is definately not playing in Poland is ADAM CZERKAS. In fact, I have no idea where he spent last season.

Finally, we have SAMMY KOEJOE, who has played in Germany for the past three years, first with SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga against the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and Bayern Munich in front of crowds of 30-40.000 in 2005/06, believe it or not. He made 12 apps and scored 2 goals in the top flight although Freiburg finished last and were relegated.
The following season he was in the 2. Bundesliga for Eintracht Braunschweig and Dynamo Dresden for 6 months each in 2006/07 (he was not a success at Braunschweig but at Dresden he scored 8 goals in 16 apps) and last season for FSV Frankfurt, although he only made 6 apps, all as a sub and did not find the net except for the reserves.
He has now returned to Austria to Wacker Innsbruck with whom he signed a 12 month deal at the end of May.

Next time I'll give you some more updates on our "foreign" players.

I'm concluding my review of ex-R's playing abroad and how theu did last season, so here's the remaining information.

Let's begin 'down under'. In the A-league in Australia we had no fewer than four ex-R's.

Of course, NICK WARD went to Melbourne Victory and managed 5 apps and a goal before the season ended.

RICHARD JOHNSON is with Wellington Phoenix. He made 14 apps without scoring.

Then we have former youth RUBEN ZADKOVICH who has signed for Derby in April from Sydney FC. He managed 17 apps out of max. 21 games.

The last one is TERRY McFLYNN, who also played for Sydney FC having signed in February 2005 from Morecambe. He made 17 apps and scored 2 goals.

If we move closer to home we had a few in Scotland (if you can call Scotland 'abroad').

ANDY THOMSON was with Stenhousemuir until March. He made 7 apps scoring twice plus a couple of cup appearances to add. At 37 his career may well have come to an end.

PAUL MURRAY was with troubled Gretna, making 32 apps and scoring once. He has since signed for Shrewsbury at the end of the season.

Loanee BOB MALCOLM chalked up 8 apps for Motherwell, having moved back north in February.

Another player who started with Morherwell was DANNY MURPHY. He nade just two last minute sub apps in August, so it was probably a good choice to move back to Ireland with Cork City. He has made 14 league apps so far in the ongoing Eircom league.

In Italy we had GENEROSO ROSSI who was almost ever present for 2.5 years for Triestina in Serie B before he was dropped in November. By that time he had made 13 apps, 94 in total for them. He moved to Catania in Serie A on loan in January but did not make an appearance.

Then we go to a more exotic place for many, namely Georgia (not the US state, though). Many fans all time favourite NED ZELIC actually won the national championship with Dinamo Tbilisi. He had joined them in February 2007. The stats are incomplete but it appears he was virtually ever-present. Well done then at the age of 36.
Since leaving us he's played in Germany, France, Japan, Austria, Australia, Holland and now Georgia. He has certainly collected some frequent flyer miles in his career!

Finally we go to Denmark. MARC NYGAARD had a good spring season, although injury prevented him from playing regularly. He managed 6 goals in 9 apps as his team Randers FC finished 6th in the table. Btw, the head coach at Randers was Colin Todd, whom I'm sure slightly elder fans remember well.

Also in Denmark we had SAMMY YOUSSOUF, who played for Vejle Boldklub in the second tier of Danish football. Vejle won the league and were promoted to the SAS liga for next season. Sammy made 9 apps (5 starts) scoring 2 goals from August to October but did not feature any more after that. He appears to still be with Vejle though, unless any Danish R's know better.

From now on I will enjoy the summer break with Euro2008 finals to look forward to. Let's see next season where some former R's end up.

Thanks & Cheers
