Bolton Official Site - Megson Pleased With Shittu
- Gary Megson has praised Danny Shittu for his contribution in last weekend's match against Wigan Athletic.
The Bolton manager felt that the 28-year-old put in a steady performance on his return to the starting line-up, despite Wanderers' defeat to their local rivals.
Prior to the game, Shittu hadn't featured for the Whites since the 3-1 home loss to Arsenal on September 20.
In the time since, the former Watford man has waited patiently for his chance following the impressive form of defensive duo Gary Cahill and Andy O'Brien over the last three months.
Megson acknowledged that things didn't go to plan for the big defender when he made his debut for the club back in August against Northampton Town, but since then he believes that the Nigerian international has settled into life at the Reebok.
"He did well and I was pleased for him," commented Megson on Shittu's performance against Wigan Athletic.
"Danny didn't have the best of debuts against Northampton in the Carling Cup, but since then he has done okay.
"I think Danny did have a little bit more pressure on his shoulders going into the Wigan game, but I think it was the type of game that would suit him.
"He won a lot of headers, looked our main threat of getting a goal and hit the crossbar. I'm not sure if he got the final touch to the one that wasn't given by the referee but he was certainly in the right area." Bolton
