Football League - WARNOCK PREDICTS OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Posted on: 17.06.2010

Neil Warnock is refusing to single out the leading contenders for the new npower Championship season believing instead that top spot in the impending campaign is wide open for any team that wants it.

Speaking at the launch of the 2010/11 npower Football League season this morning, the Queens Park Rangers Manager was giving his reaction to the fixtures release for the new npower Championship, npower League 1 and npower League 2.

And having digested the R's opening home tie to Barnsley followed by a return to his former club Sheffield United, in their first away game, Warnock admitted that the sides relegated and promoted to the npower Championship last term will leave the door open for several to battle it out for the title:

"I think it's the best league in the world, the Championship," he said. "I know you get all of the big teams in the Premier League, but everybody can forecast that - whereas in the Championship, you can't.

"I don't think you can point a finger this season, it's so wide open. Coming down, you'd probably think Burnley of three teams were contenders, but Hull and Portsmouth have great squads.

"Coming up, Leeds are really having a go, I know how ambitious they're going to be.

"Cardiff will recover from last year and be one of the forerunners, Swansea had a great season and Barnsley are spending money.
"I think it's just a fabulous, open Championship."

This season marks the first of a three-year deal between The Football League and npower which sees the energy company become the title sponsor for The League.

And in addition to Warnock - and new signing Paddy Kenny's - return to Bramall Lane just a fortnight into the new campaign, the fixture computer has produced some tantalising ties for the opening weeks of the season which you can check out by clicking here.
