Yann Tear/Fulham Chronicle - QPR star Alejandro Faurlin troubled by FA inquiry
- ALEJANDRO Faurlin was ‘deeply unsettled’ by the FA transfer probe relating to his 2009 summer move from Instituto Cordoba, a team-mate has revealed.
- The Argentinian has been calmed by his team-mates and reassured about his value to the club.
- The 24-year-old was arguably QPR’s outstanding performer in Monday night’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United at Loftus Road.
- He helped create the first goal, drilled in a superb second and was generally the fulcrum of Rangers’ best attacks, as well as getting stuck in to his usual defensive midfield duties.
- His pal Tommy Smith says it has not been easy for Faurlin to shrug off the furore surrounding the legalities of his move to west London.
- QPR and chairman Gianni Paladini will contest all the charges made against them at a hearing starting on May 3.
- "I think initially, the transfer saga did affect him," Smith told the Gazette.
- "He had a tough few days. You could tell it was troubling him.
- "He’s such a bright bubbly guy and he wasn’t for two or three days and I can understand the pressure that comes with the situation he was in, even though it wasn’t his fault at all.
- "When you’ve got that hanging over your head, you feel maybe you’re letting the team down, but it’s out of his hands completely and we said that to him and I think he’s fine now.
- "As you could see [against Sheffield United], it’s not stopping him at all."
- Smith added: "He’s a great player for us. He does both sides of the game really well.
- "They told me when he signed that he didn’t like the nitty-gritty side of football, but I can’t believe that, watching him now, because his all-round game has been fantastic this season.
- "He’s starting to add goals to his game as well and his finish [on Monday] was fantastic.
- "He’s popped up a few times with important goals for us this season and for a midfielder to do that - especially one that sits rather than pushes forward - is really valuable." Fulham Chronicle

THE Football League and FA admit that the end of the season could be thrown into “complete turmoil” if the independent regulatory commission looking into the QPR situation comes up with a punishment that materially affects their promotion status.
Rangers face seven charges of breaching regulations over the alleged existence of third-party ownership of Alejandro Faurlin. Their hearing will start on May 3, with the decision due within 72 hours – just two days before the final fixtures of the Championship season.
However, if as a result QPR lose an automatic promotion place, they have leave to appeal following the final round of games – which would throw the whole play-off situation into turmoil.
The FA say that any punishment will only be imposed once an appeal has been heard – likely to be weeks later. Which means the League board are likely to proceed with the play-off fixtures based upon an unamended table.
Consequently, now that the Premier League gravy train is thought to be worth £90million to clubs, the FA could be faced with a massive compensation bill if a team – such as QPR – with a legal right or opportunity to go up to the top flight are denied that chance. Express

- QPR are expecting a hefty fine rather than a points loss as punishment for signing Alejandro Faurlin.

Paul Warburton - QPR eye Cardiff City's on-loan Hull midfielder
- QPR are weighing up an approach for Nigerian international Seyi Olofinjana as they gallop towards the final fence of a return to the Premiership.
- The 30-year-old midfielder has totalled £8million in three transfers since his arrival in England, but only has one year left of his £22k-a-week contract at Hull City when he returns from his season-long loan at Cardiff.
- Rangers boss Neil Warnock met chairman Gianni Paladini and former supremo Flavio Briatore on Tuesday to discuss the future, although the manager was keeping cards close to his chest about their chat.
- "Flavio and Gianni are excited about our prospects as well they should be," said Warnock. "But needless to say I can’t go into detail about discussions at this stage."
- But insiders at the club revealed the table-topping Rs are keen to line up players for a tilt at the top flight – with Olofinjana one of a number of targets that include Wolves' Kevin Doyle – as exclusively revealed by Chronicle sport.
- The source said: "QPR need a mixture of athleticism and skill for next season, and although Olofinjana has had a mixed couple of years – look what the manager did for the careers of Heidar Helguson and Wayne Routledge to name but two." Fulham Chronicle

The ESPN PFA Fans' Player of the Year shortlists have been announced for all four divisions, with all the monthly winners throughout the season going on to contest the grand prize for each league.
With six separate winners throughout the season, the Npower Championship provides a competitive list of candidates for the prestigious award.

*AUGUST / SEPTEMBER
Jamie Mackie (QPR)
The QPR striker has been a revelation for the Hoops since moving to Loftus Road last summer, and his sensational early season form helped Neil Warnock's side to open up an eight-point lead at the top of the Championship table.
Rangers have gone from strength to strength but, sadly, Mackie's season has been cut short by an injury that will rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.
The 25 year-old livewire enjoyed a scintillating run of form in September scoring five goals, including doubles against Ipswich Town and Leicester City, and he was rewarded with the first ESPN PFA Fans' Player of the Month award of the season.
His impressive start to the season was also recognised by a first call-up to the full Scotland international squad, making his debut in the 1-0 Euro 2012 qualifying defeat against Czech Republic.
*OCTOBER
Lewis McGugan (Nottingham Forest)
A product of the Nottingham Forest youth academy, McGugan started the 2010-11 season in sensational form at the City Ground.
Having made a name for himself as an impact player with the ability to make vital contributions coming off the bench, McGugan is always capable of scoring important goals.
His strength on the ball, allied to his skill and vision make him a natural focal point for Forest attacks, none more so than in October 2010 when McGugan was rewarded with the ESPN PFA Fans' Player of the Month award.
With six goals from seven games McGugan's fine form was capped by a 30-yard thunderbolt free kick against Ipswich in a 2-0 victory and remains a contender for the Championship goal of the season.
*NOVEMBER
Luciano Becchio (Leeds)
With 18 goals in 35 appearances this season, Luciano Becchio's contribution to Leeds United's promotion push has been invaluable.
His hard-working physical style of forward play has caused Championship defenders no end of problems all season long and made the 27-year-old striker a firm favourite amongst Elland Road fans.
Becchio scooped the November ESPN PFA Fans' Player of the Month award, recognition for the key role he played in Leeds' excellent run of form which saw them go a total of 12 games unbeaten.
The finest performance of all was Becchio's stunning 18-minute hat-trick scored in the 3-1 home victory over Bristol City to clinch the award.
*DECEMBER
Danny Graham (Watford)
Watford's prolific striker has demonstrated the ability to find the back of the net since arriving at Vicarage Road, and has become the spearhead of Malky Mackay's attacking side.
During his first season in the Championship he bagged 14 league goals, becoming the club's top goalscorer in his debut campaign.
And with 23 league goals in 38 appearances this term, Graham sits proudly at the top of the Npower Championship goalscoring charts, testimony to his consistency over the season.
The Hornets' 25-year-old star striker was rewarded for his fine form in December 2010 when he claimed the ESPN PFA Fans' Player of the Month award, having scored five goals which started a run of seven consecutive Watford victories, with Graham scoring in every single one - a club record.
*JANUARY / FEBRUARY
Robert Snodgrass (Leeds)
The 23-year-old newly capped Scotland international was named in the PFA Team of the Year at the end of last season, and wasted no time in pushing on this campaign.
Having missed the start of the season through injury, Snodgrass quickly rediscovered his fine form and was rewarded with back-to-back ESPN PFA Fans' Player of the Month awards in January and February 2011.
Snodgrass has been one of Simon Grayson's most consistent performers, and has chipped in with seven goals as well as numerous assists as he looks to help Leeds United in their push for promotion back to the Barclays Premier League.
*MARCH
Jonathan Howson (Leeds)
Leeds United's longest serving player, Jonny Howson has made over 150 appearances for the Lilywhites, and was recently rewarded for his fine form this season when he scooped the ESPN PFA Fans' March Player of the Month award.
The England Under 21 international has been an ever-present for Leeds this season, having featured in all 43 league and cup games.
Having developed into an outstanding midfield player with an eye for goal, Howson has found the net on 11 occasions this campaign - his most recent coming in last weekend's 4-1 demolition of play-off contenders Nottingham Forest.
Howson has been a key cog in the United works and continues to play a major role in the battle for promotion.
