QPR OFFICIAL SITE -WARNOCK: 'THAT'S FOOTBALL'

Neil Warnock refused to be too downbeat despite seeing his side thumped 4-1 at Scunthorpe United.

Rangers succumbed to only their fifth league reverse of the campaign at Glanford Park, despite leading through Rob Hulse.

Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Warnock said: "That's football.

"I think you've just got to understand that that's the way it goes sometimes.

"We should have been four or five up at half-time.

"That's what you get sometimes - you get kicked in the teeth.

"We've got absolutely no complaints at the end of the day."

Warnock added: "I knew today would be hard. A second goal would have killed them off and I thought we had three or four great chances to bury the game.

"Their keeper pulled off a couple of great saves at 1-0 and then we gave a silly free-kick away and they equalised.

"I felt quietly confident at half-time, but we gifted them a second goal. It was just one of those things.

"And for the third I thought there was a foul in the build-up, but we can't make excuses.

"That's the way it goes sometimes and in the end I was glad when the whistle went." QPR

SCUNTHORPE OFFICIAL SITE - WIN GIVES PEOPLE BELIEF - KNILLPosted on: Sat 09 Apr 2011
Iron manager Alan Knill remained grounded after his team's thumping 4-1 home victory over league leaders Queens Park Rangers, but was full of praise for the attitude displayed by his side.

Scunthorpe went behind to an early Rob Hulse strike but hit back through Joe Garner's header before half-time.

Garner forced home a second from close range soon after the break, before Michael O'Connor struck home a stunner from 25 yards and Mark Duffy notched a further goal late on.

It was the perfect response to last week's 6-0 loss at Norwich City for Knill, in his home game in charge of the Iron.

As a result, United move up two places in the Championship - from bottom to 22nd.

Indeed, they now find themselves five points adrift of safety now - with Reading to visit Glanford Park on Tuesday night and a trip to fourth from bottom Crystal Palace on the horizon next Saturday.

"I'm a happy manager but it's important to not get carried away," Knill told The Iron Player.

"That was a great win for us, but it's gone now.

"So I tell the fans to enjoy it while they can because there are more important games coming.

"I think the biggest thing for me was the performance.

"I would have taken a loss but I had to have a performance that was something like the Scunthorpe I know - which is aggressive, making it difficult for people to play and then, when you get the ball, have players who can do something with it.

"I must say, I was delighted with the performance.

"We had started okay but then we went behind through a really sloppy goal.

"At that point you think 'oh, here we go'.

"But the reaction from the players was really important.

"It was important to get the goal back through Joe Garner from a set-play and it just kept us going forward again.

"We got a goal straight after half-time and that was through momentum.

"They had to really come out and attack to get something from the game but, for us, it all went to plan because we know we have players who can do damage.

"The third goal from O'Connor was a great strike. I'm not bothered how they go in as long as they do, but it was superb.

"It all went to plan really, but I have to say the reaction from the players in training this week to what we've introduced has been excellent.

"We came into it off a really poor performance at Norwich.

"I went to watch QPR beat Sheffield United on Monday and they are the best team in the league.

"What you have to do though is compete and I thought we did that really well.

"We set out our stall to really compete and we have some talented footballers here who can cause damage to other teams.

"I'm not going to single out any players, but I thought they all did really well for us.

"That's what it's going to take.

"It's not about individuals, it's about the team and the work ethic and I have to say, that's pretty much what my teams play like.

"We're still in a really precarious position but what this does is give everybody here some sort of belief and hope that we can turn it around.

"You don't go down without a fight and on the day I felt we fought first.

"If you're in a dogfight it's the fight that comes first - we did that on Saturday and got what we deserved.

"We're delighted to win 4-1 at home but we can't get carried away with ourselves.

"We're still in the bottom three and you can't say well done until we're out of there - this is just the start."

- Scunthorpe Minute-by-Minute Report
QPR Official Site
QPR succumbed to only their fifth defeat of the npower Championship campaign after a 4-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Scunthorpe United.

Despite Rangers taking an early lead through Rob Hulse, the hosts - to their credit - bounced back in immeasurable style to clinch only their fifth home league win of the season.

Hulse edged the R's in front on seven minutes, after he rose highest to nod home Wayne Routledge's pinpoint cross from the right.

Following their opener, Rangers were wasteful in front of target, missing a whole host of chances to extend their advantage in the first half.

And they were punished for their inability to double their lead on 28 minutes, when Joe Garner met Michael O'Connor's free-kick from the right to draw Scunny level before the break.

Garner added his - and the Iron's second - just three minutes after half time, before O'Connor's outrageous third and Mark Duffy's 79th minute strike condemned the R's to defeat.

Neil Warnock made three changes to his R's side that were victorious in Monday night's 3-0 defeat of Sheffield United in W12.

Hogan Ephraim, Hulse and Danny Shittu all came into the starting XI, at the expense of Adel Taarabt, Heidar Helguson and Kaspars Gorkss respectively.

So, with Paddy Kenny in goal for the Hoops, Bradley Orr, skipper for the day Fitz Hall, Shittu and Clint Hill lined-up at the back for QPR.

Shaun Derry and Alejandro Faurlin were in defensive midfield.

Ephraim, Routledge - whose deadly double put the Blades to the sword in midweek - and Tommy Smith made up Rangers' attacking trio.

Hulse led the R's line up front.

Rangers fans travelled in their droves to Scunthorpe, in what could be a historic week for the Club.

Indeed, close to 2,000 R's supporters made the trip north, with QPR knowing that - prior to kick-off - three more wins would seal a return to the Premier League.

Basking in the sumptuous spring sunshine, Rangers almost got off to the perfect start.

Faurlin fed Routledge out wide on the right and, when his pinpoint centre found the feet of Hulse, the former Derby County front-man could only fire his effort over the bar, albeit under pressure from his marker.

Moments later and Hulse was again involved, chesting a ball from deep down for Ephraim who, after skipping past his marker into the box, dragged an effort wide of the target with his weaker left foot.

Rangers were menacing and, after seven minutes, Warnock's charges were duly rewarded with the opening goal of the tie.

It owed much to R's wing wizard Routledge, who carved open the chance for Hulse to net with a devastating centre.

Midfield general Derry picked up possession midway into the Sc**thorpe half, before playing a sweeping pass out to the right for Routledge.

The diminutive wide-man's telling cross met by an equally spectacular header by Hulse, who rose highest to plant a powerful header into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

The R's almost instantaneously added a second.

Ephraim's killer cross-field ball found Routledge out wide on the right who, after bursting into the box, executed a lobbed effort that Iron keeper Joe Murphy somehow managed to claw from behind him and away from the target.

QPR were doing everything but find the net in their attempts to double the advantage.

Smith's free-kick from left was eventually met by Hall who was unmarked from 10-yards out and, when his knock-down found Faurlin, he could only fire his shot just inches over the bar.

Rangers then missed arguably their best opportunity of the half to extend the lead.

Faurlin led the R's charge after a Scunny corner, breaking into the opposing half before putting Routledge through on goal.

One-on-one with Murphy, Routledge looked certain to find the net before the United shot-stopper pulled off a fine block to divert the ball up field.

Rangers were punished for not taking whole host of first-half chances when the Iron drew level in the 28th minute.

O'Connor's free-kick from the right was of perfection, with his cross finding the head of Garner, who made no mistake to smash a bullet header past Kenny - despite his best attempts to keep the effort out, after getting a hand to the ball.

Sc**thorpe had the momentum going into the break and they started the second half where they left off in the first, with Garner adding his - and the Iron's second - on 48 minutes.

Kenny failed to gather a high ball into the box and, when the ball eventually found its way to Garner six yards from goal, his scuffed effort trickled into the far corner of the vacant net.

Mere spectators for the majority of the opening period, Scunny were now arguably on top and the Iron faithful were treated to a third goal courtesy of a quite stunning strike from O'Connor on 58 minutes.

QPR's rearguard failed to clear their lines from a Sc**thorpe attack, before the ball fell perfectly for O'Connor 20-yards out.

And what followed was to raise the Glanford Park roof, with the United midfielder on hand with a sweetly-executed strike that flew past Kenny into the top right-hand corner.

The R's fate was all-but sealed when Duffy added a fourth in the 79th minute.

Dagnall dispossessed Hill on the left-hand byline before laying the ball back to Duffy, whose effort deflected off substitute Pascal Chimbonda and into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
