INDEPENDENT - Fernandes 'will not run' from QPR

DARREN WITCOOP WEDNESDAY 29 FEBRUARY 2012

Tony Fernandes, the owner of Queen's Park Rangers, said yesterday that he was not "scared" by relegation from the Premier League. Only goal difference is keeping QPR out of the bottom three and there have been doubts whether the Malaysian, who took over the club at the start of the season, will stay if relegation ensues.

Fernandes said: "The QPR fans are just getting to know me. So no, I'm not going to run away. I started an airline with two planes, been through SARS, bird flu, a Tsunami, an earthquake, terrorism and airports closed for seven days. Relegation isn't going to scare me. It's a long-term project and Rome wasn't built in a day. Along the way there will be hiccups. But when you look back in 15 and 20 years' time, we will be proud of what we achieved."

QPR face Everton on Saturday after three defeats in a row. Fernandes said: "Mark Hughes has brought new energy to the club but we haven't had the best of luck. But we have a good squad. We have a tough few weeks but if we come through that I'm really looking forward to the future.

"The main aim is to stay in the Premier League, but other plans have to go on. The training ground is looking good and the stadium is something I have been working on. Amazingly, it's easier buying 100 planes than building a stadium in the UK Independent

Tony Fernandes: Committed to a long-term project at Queens Park Rangers

Queens Park Rangers owner Tony Fernandes has insisted he is not frightened by the prospect of relegation and is committed to a long-term project at Loftus Road.

Fernandes took over the club last summer but his financial backing has failed to keep QPR clear of the scrap for Premier League survival.

They are only above the bottom three on goal difference and there have been doubts about whether Fernandes would stay if the immediate future lies in the Championship.

The Malaysian has now moved to reassure supporters, insisting he has the strength of character to come through tough times.

"The QPR fans are just getting to know me. So no, I'm not going to run away," he told The Independent.

"I started an airline with two planes, been through SARS, bird flu, a tsunami, an earthquake, terrorism and airports closed for seven days. Relegation isn't going to scare me.

"It's a long-term project and Rome wasn't built in a day. Along the way there will be hiccups. But when you look back in 15 and 20 years' time, we will be proud of what we achieved."

Hiccups

"It's a long-term project and Rome wasn't built in a day. Along the way there will be hiccups. But when you look back in 15 and 20 years' time, we will be proud of what we achieved."

Fernandes has been encouraged by the way new manager Mark Hughes has gone about his business since replacing Neil Warnock at the helm, and is hopeful they can get back on track against Everton this weekend.

"Mark Hughes has brought new energy to the club but we haven't had the best of luck," he said.

"But we have a good squad. We have a tough few weeks but if we come through that I'm really looking forward to the future.

"The main aim is to stay in the Premier League, but other plans have to go on. The training ground is looking good and the stadium is something I have been working on.

QPR Official Site - THANK YOU FOR TIGER CUBS SUPPORT!

Posted on: Tue 28 Feb 2012

The Club would like to say a big thank you to YOU - the Loftus Road faithful - who showed tremendous support for the QPR Tiger Cubs against Fulham on Saturday.

Players from the Fulham Badgers and our very own Tiger Cubs took part in a penalty shoot-out during half-time.

And the support that the Tiger Cubs received - both vocally and through financial contributions - was nothing short of outstanding.

Both Clubs provide fully-inclusive football and sport for children with Down's Syndrome

There are currently three Tiger Cubs sessions each week in White City, Westminster and Kingsbury.

The new QPR Tigers adult social club also starts on March 8th at the White City Community Centre.

This is all down to the continued support from Amit Bhatia and Global Relief Initiative, and Sport England through Sportsmatch.

You can still support the JustTextGiving campaign in aid of the Tiger Cubs and the QPR Community Trust. Text QPRW12 £3 to 70070 QPR

FOUR YEAR PLAN PREMIERE
Posted on: Tue 28 Feb 2012

The Premiere of The Four Year Plan - a fly-on-the-wall documentary following the highs and lows of Queens Park Rangers Football Club over four seasons - took place in London tonight (Tuesday).

Over 300 guests, including QPR Vice-Chairman Amit Bhatia, as well as Mark Hughes and the entire Rangers First Team squad were present, as the documentary - which will also be aired on BBC2 on Sunday evening (11.15pm) - made its domestic debut on the small screen at the Curzon Cinema.

"I think it's a good movie," Bhatia told www.qpr.co.uk.

"It's an accurate representation of what went on over the four years that ultimately led to our promotion. The good times, the bad times, the ups and the downs.

"The film shows the challenging situations that are posed for a Football Club.

"It was an extraordinarily difficult watch at times, but we got where we wanted to get and I'm sure all the supporters will enjoy watching it."

The Four Year Plan follows the incredible highs and lows of the Club after being rescued from bankruptcy in 2007 by billionaire backers Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone, Lakshmi Mittal and Amit Bhatia.

The camera records meetings, telephone conversations, matches and private chats that reveals the turbulent and dramatic developments in four seasons at Loftus Road.

The Four Year Plan culminates in an extraordinary, nail-biting finale and goes where no film about football has gone before.

*We'll bring you more action and reaction from the Premiere in the coming days, as well as in Saturday's 'Hoops' matchday programme.

Federico Macheda and Nile Ranger charged by FA for homophobic Tweets

Manchester United's Federico Macheda, Newcastle United's Nile Ranger and Walsall's Manny Smith have all been charged by the Football Association for alleged homophobic comments on Twitter.

The players are alleged to have acted in a way which was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.

Each has until 1600 GMT on Wednesday 29 February to respond to the charges.

West Ham's Ravel Morrison and ex-Leicester player Michael Ball have recently been fined for similar cases.

Morrison was fined £7,000 by the FA in February after he admitted a charge of using abusive and/or insulting words on Twitter, including a reference to a person's sexual orientation.

Ball, who also played for England, Manchester City and Everton, was fined £6,000 for tweeting about Coronation Street actor Anthony Cotton.

The FA launched a new six-year inclusion and anti-homophobia plan last Monday called 'Opening Doors and Joining In' where it outlined its aims to rid the game of prejudice.

Macheda, 20, is currently on loan at QPR, having joined the west London club in January.

TONY FERNANDES is planning to listen to the concerns of irate QPR fans on a pub crawl before Saturday’s visit of Everton.

The Rangers chairman has been getting stick on Twitter after his side’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to local rivals Fulham at the weekend.

But he has vowed not to walk away from the club and will meet supporters to canvass opinion on under-fire boss Mark Hughes.

Fernandes said: “I will be at the Everton game. I’ll come early and walk round the stands and come to the pubs. And hear you out. I’m not going to quit and am not going to run away from problems. We will get there.

“I understand your frustrations but I love what we’re doing at QPR.

“Just moaning and blaming isn’t going to help.

“Be positive. I have been through much worse. I’m loving every moment. I’ll do my best. Believe me.” Star
